Acupuncture points for stress

Anyone who underwent acupuncture knows the relaxing effect it can have. This ancient Chinese method of treatment is making a comeback in the recent years due to its overwhelming successful results without any surgical or drug administration. In other words, acupuncture has no side effects that conventional medicine has. Can acupuncture cure all medical conditions including stress? Acupuncturists believe that people suffer from stress when the qi, the living energy in a human body, is trapped in the chest. Hence, to relieve a person of stress would mean simply removing the qi from the chest. This can be done by stimulating various acupuncture points for stress.

Shan Zhong, located between the nipples, and Nei Guan, located in the inner side of forearm, 2 cun above the wrist are the primary acupuncture points for stress treatment. Acupuncturists carefully and skilled fully insert hair thin needles at various depth in the acupuncture points to release the qi energy that was stuck in the chest.

Some acupuncturists goes a step beyond and recognizes the root of the stress. In most cases stress is accompanied by depression or vice versa. Hence, if acupuncture points for stress that are also linked to the points for depression are triggered patients are likely to have a better result. Hence, some acupuncturists use the following acupuncture points for stress to get a better result.

Shen Men, a yuan source on the channel of the heart, is a small depression on the wrist crease. Bai Hui an acupuncture point for stress and depression on the scalp is where the six yang channels meet the Governing vessels.

In the recent years, numerous studies were conducted to identify the effectiveness of acupuncture and many more are ongoing. Although is some case the studies are inconclusive, like in the treatment of cancer, etc, there are conclusive evidence that acupuncture does help in the healing of the body. Problems like sleeping disorder, constipation, arthritis, stress, sexual issues, etc have proven conclusion on the benefit that acupuncture can have in dealing with these conditions. Recently a study was conducted by a psychologist in the University of Arizona on the treatment of depression and stress via acupuncture with alarming result. The study conclusively indicates that subjects undergoing acupuncture treatment tailored to specific symptoms were completely cured. The studies also revealed that those subjects who underwent acupuncture but not for the specific symptoms of stress and depression also had a significant effect on these conditions as compared to those groups of subjects who did not receive acupuncture at all.
